The Greater Houston area has a long history of outstanding middle and high school football. This is due in large part to the quality coaching that middle and high school players receive at their public and private schools. Within the past 20 years, there has been an increasing emphasis placed on the passing game, and as a result, the Greater Houston area has earned a deserved reputation as one of the most fertile recruiting areas in the country for quarterbacks and receivers.

The Houston Passing Academy (HPA) was launched in 2010 to offer instruction to middle and high school-age quarterbacks and receivers. This instruction will complement skills the young men are learning at their respective schools and will prepare them to become better, more effective players for their schools.

HPA will focus on the fundamentals of the passing game. These fundamentals are the building blocks for any quarterback or receiver and will have an application irrespective of the type of offense the young man’s school team is running.

HPA will feature the knowledge and expertise of former professional quarterbacks and receivers: Mike Quinn, 8 year NFL veteran quarterback; Oliver Luck, 5 year NFL veteran quarterback; and Bert Emanuel, 7 year NFL veteran receiver. All three men share ties to Houston football; Mike was the first quarterback signed by the Houston Texans in 2001, Oliver was the second-round draft pick of the Houston Oilers in 1982, and Bert Emanuel was a stand-out quarterback of the Rice Owls from 1990-1993. A number of additional former, and current, professional and collegiate players will be featured at the Houston Passing Academy.
